Our mission is to protect the public through education and the enforcement of the Fire Code of New York State.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention consists of one Fire Inspector and twenty-six Fire Code Compliance Technicians. The Code Compliance Technicians are City of Middletown Professional Fire Fighters and Lieutenants who are New York State Certified.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducts over 500 fire safety inspections annually on Public Assemblies, Industrial Occupancies, and Commercial Properties as well as building services installation inspections such as Sprinkler Systems, Fire Alarms, and Commercial Cooking Hoods.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention must be notified and an application must be submited prior to any work being done. For a list of approved companies and contractors contact the Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Be advised commercial properties, public assemblies, and businesses must be inspected by the Bureau of Fire Prevention, It is your responsibility to contact the Bureau of Fire Prevention to schedule an inspection.
Spinkler systems must be inspected annually by a certified sprinkler company.
Fire alarms must be inspected annually by a certified fire alarm company.
Elevators must be inspected annually by a certified third party elevator inspection company.
Fire extinguishers must be inspected and serviced annually by a certified fire extinguisher company or replaced with a new extinguisher.
