FEMA UPDATE
The Disaster Recovery Center is currently open in Orange County at the Orange County Fire Training Center, 9 Training Center Lane, New Hampton, NY 10953. The Disaster Recovery Center is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Saturday.

We have requested that the mobile unit be available for Middletown area residents. Please call Mayor DeStefano's office at 346-4100 with any questions.

We have requested a local FEMA Disaster Recovery Center be placed in the Middletown area to process and assist those with claims.

At this point, it is no longer necessary to send your photos to the city of Middletown. Families may register for FEMA assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or tty 800-462-7585. Families can also apply online at www.disasterassistance.gov, or on their smartphone at m.fema.gov.

The opening and location of these centers will be announced in the media and placed on our web site and Facebook page.

Governor Cuomo Announces Federal Disaster Aid Approved for Additional Counties

FEMA ASSISTANCE FACT SHEET
New York's Office of Emergency Management has made available a Fact Sheet outlining some assistance available to individuals affected by Hurricane Irene, as well as listing other sources of information on these programs.

ICE DISTRIBUTION 9/01/11
Orange & Rockland Utilities will be distributing dry and/or wet ice at City Hall from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, September 1.

LOCAL DISASTER AREA DECLARED
Orange County was included in the Declaration by President Obama as a disaster area. Individual homeowners who have storm related damage should contact Mayor DeStefano's office at 346-4100. We need as much data as possible to submit to FEMA. Take pictures and document damage and expenses. FEMA is expected to be in Orange County this week.

If you have storm damaged items such as carpeting, furniture etc. the city will be picking up items in the coming weeks. Some insurance companies are demanding that you hold onto these items until they complete their assessment. Please abide by your insurance company requirements. We will arrange at a later date to pick up your items.

LOCAL OUTREACH IN IRENE'S WAKE
In the wake of Hurricane Irene, local businesses and organizations are offering assistance to residents:

  • Fort Knox Self Storage, at 9 Canal Street, is offering free health & beauty aid bags containing powders, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, etc, as well as free storage to anyone displaced by the storm. Please visit them between 9:00AM and 7:00PM.
  • Middletown YMCA, on Highland Avenue, is offering access to showers to all residents without running water.
  • Orange & Rockland Utilities will be distributing ICE to customers without power at the Orange County Government Center, 40 Erie Street, Goshen. Distribution begins at 2:00PM Tuesday, August 30. Dry ice is not available at this time.
