Recreation and Parks Department works year round to provide a wide range of safe and accessible recreational facilities and leisure time programs for participants of all ages. Whatever your interest may be, you can always find an activity or a special event to enhance your quality of life. Year round programs include: Basketball, Cheerleading, Community Center Programs, Fitness, Pre-School program,  Teen Programs, Tennis.

The City of Middletown has thirteen parks available that can accommodate baseball, basketball, bicycling, cooking, fishing, football, horse shows, outdoor concerts, ice skating, jogging, picnics, playground activities, soccer, swimming, tennis, walking or just relaxing with the family or friends.Reservations for park facilities can be made by calling our office at least thirty days in advance. Reservations for the picnic pavilions in Fancher-Davidge, Ben & Paula Amchir Park, & Maple Hill are accepted beginning in January to reserve for dates of May 15th through Oct 15th of each year. A small fee is required. Revocable Permits are also issued for other requested use of City park property. Our Professional Staff look forward to serving you.

Easter Egg Hunt

An Easter Egg Hunt will be held in Fancher-Davidge Park's Lion's Shelter area starting at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 4, 2015 for ages 10 and under.  Bring your child out and let them have fun hunting for eggs and prizes!

2015 Spring Break Program

Sign up NOW for the Middletown Recreation & Parks Spring Break Program.  From Monday, March 30, 2014 - Friday, April 3, 2014 there will be a daily program at the Middletown High School from 9:00am - 4:00pm.  Children must be 6 years of age to 13 years of age to participate.  Activities will include but not be limited to swimming, basketball, floor hockey, soccer, cheerleading and Arts & Crafts.  Cost is $70.00 for the week per child.  See attached form or contact 845-346-4180 for further information.

Camps

SPORTS CAMP
Apply now for another exciting year of the Middletown Recreation Sports Camp located at the Monhagen Middle School, 555 County Route 78, Middletown, New York. Campers will be transported to additional facilities for swimming. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6 - 13, and all activities offered will be offered according to each camper's level of ability. Camp hours are 8:30am - 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, rain or shine. There is a Latchkey program for an additional fee which is run daily from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.

LITTLE PEOPLE PLAYTIME
Little People Playtime is for 4, 5 & 6 year old boys and girls who want to enjoy sports, crafts, swimming, trips and other activities. Little People Playtime is located at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center at 47 Academy Avenue in Middletown. Hours are from 9:00am - 2:00pm Monday through Friday, rain or shine. Lunch is provided but children should bring a snack and drink.

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM
This program is for 13, 14 & 15 year old boys and girls. Participants in the program will receive training in First Aid &CPR. The Counselor-in-Training Program will be held at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center, 47 Academy Avenue in Middletown. Hours of the program are 9:00am - 3:00pm Monday through Friday, rain or shine. Lunch is provided along with a staff shirt and valuable hands-on experience.

CHEERLEADING CAMP
Cheerleading Camp is for girls 6 to 12 years-of-age who want to boost their confidence and have some fun too! The camp held at Maple Hill Park, Kawanis Shelter, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, rain or shine! Campers should wear comfortable clothing, brink a lunch, snack and ample drink for warm days. Focus is on proper stretching & strengthening exercises, basic cheerleading moves and jumps.

Pre-K Program

Pre-School Program

The program is for 3 & 4 year olds and emphasizes eye-hand coordination and socialization. Classes are conducted on Mondays through Fridays at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center. The cost of the 2014-2015 Pre-School Program is $65.00 per month for 3 year olds for Middletown Residents; $75.00 per month for Non-Middletown Residents. The cost for 4 year olds will be $90.00 per month for Middletown Residents; $100.00 per month for Non-Middletown Residents. This school year, by demand we have added an afternoon 3 year olds program. The 3 yr olds depending on which class registered will attend on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:00am-11:30am or 12:00-2:30pm and the 4 year olds attend on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 8:30am-11:30am.

TENNIS PROGRAM

The Department has 4 outdoor tennis courts which are located at Maple Hill Park. The courts are open seven (7) days a week from 8:00am - dusk, weather permitting.

Youth Tennis Clinics

Children's Tennis Clinics are offered beginning Monday, July 6, 2015 - August 14, 2015 on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9:30am - 11:30am.

Swimming

SWIMMING POOLS
Middletown is fortunate to have three (3) outdoor swimming pools for your enjoyment: Sproat Street Pool at Sproat Street Park, Maple Hill Pool at Maple Hill Park and War Veteran's Memorial Pool at Fancher-Davidge Park.  War Veteran's Memorial Pool was completely renovated and now has the main pool and a sprayground, which is for children 54 inches tall and under. All pools will be open on Monday, June 29, 2015 and are scheduled to close Sunday, August 30, 2015, depending on staffing. All pools are open to the public seven (7) days a week from 12:00pm — 6:00pm.

Fees are

$1.00 for children (16 and under)

$3.00 for adults.

FREE SWIM
"Free Swims" are offered at Sproat Street Pool and War Veteran's Memorial Pool on Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:00am to 11:00am starting on Tuesday,June 30, 2015. Free Swim at Maple Hill Pool will begin on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

SWIM LESSONS
Lessons are offered at Middletown High School Pool from Monday, July 6, 2015 to Tuesday, August 8, 2015. Commencing on July 6, 2015, the following classes are being offered on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays:

INTERMEDIATES (stroke development)

Teen Programs

The Middletown Teen Program is for Middletown Residents ONLY!  During the school year the Teen Center is open Monday through Thursday 6:00pm - 9:00pm; Friday & Saturday 8:00pm - 11:00pm. During the summer months the Teen Center is only open Monday & Wednesday 6:00pm - 9:00pm, and Friday & Saturday 8:00pm - 11:00pm. The Teen Center is free of charge for children 11 - 18 years of age. The Teen Center is a safe place for teens to socialize and be able to play pool, ping pong, video games, table games and exercise in our full size gym and the fitness room.

Funds provided by NYS Office of Children and Family Services through the Orange County Youth Bureau

TEEN CENTER GYM PROGRAM
Summer gym hours for teens will be:

Mondays & Wednesdays: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Fridays & Saturdays: 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Activities will include basketball, indoor soccer, double dutch and more! All participants must have the proper paperwork filed with the Middletown Teen Center Staff before admittance to the Gym Program. All participants MUST follow ALL Rules & Regulations or the will be excluded from the program. 

MAYOR'S YOUTH COUNCIL
Middletown is looking for youth to get involved in their community. The City needs to hear your ideas and concerns for positive programming. Help make Middletown a better place for its youth and families by getting involved with various agencies that could use your new and fresh ideas. Meet people in City Government and let your voice be heard.

There will be special events, programs and trips for those students getting involved in being part of making Middletown a great place for youth.
