This is a self-guided tour of historic downtown Middletown, NY. Your can start anywhere on the map. The signs will have a photograph of the site or building as it looked in the past and will identify the building by its former name. The signs will be located either in the windows of the historic buildings, on posts at or near the sites or affixed to the building.
When you arrive at a location, dial the phone number on the sign or scan the QR code with your Smart Phone. Listen to the introduction and when prompted, press the number of the site and listen to the audio narrative.
If the individual wishes to read the narrative, QR codes will be n the signs and the tourist will scan the code with a phone that can read QR codes.
Tour brochure will include a map and will be available at local business in the greater Middletown area. The audio tour will be in operation 24 hours, seven days a week and free to the public.

Any resident who has a Yard Sale or Garage Sale in the City of Middletown must have a permit, issued by the City Clerk's Office, according to the City Code Chapter 384 Article II Garage/Yard Sales.
• There are No Rain Dates for Yard Sales
• Yard Sales are only 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. only
• The Permit for a Yard Sale is $10.00
• Yard Sales or Garage sale permits are limited to only two (2) per year, for no more than 3 consecutive days.
• A $50.00 refundable deposit is required for all Yard Sales and will be refunded after the Code Enforcement Department authorizes the compliance of Chapter 319-17 Litter Law:

No person shall post or affix any notice, poster or other paper or device calculated to attract the attention of the public to any lamppost, public utility pole or shade tree, or upon any public structure or building, except as may be authorized or required by law.
There are also no posting of signs on City property, such as street signs, stop signs and yield signs. City property also includes sidewalks. Signs are permitted on private property with the owner's permission and must be taken down the next day.

Mail your checks and application to City Clerk's Office, 16 James Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Also include a self-stamped addressed envelope to mail the signed permit back to you. The City at this time does not have the capacity to pay online debit or credit.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney announced his staff will be available for Satellite Office Hours in Carmel, Middletown and Poughkeepsie beginning this month. In addition to normal office hours in Rep. Maloney's district office in Newburgh, satellite office hours will offer constituents to visit have the opportunity to share any questions, comments or concerns with a constituent advocate, who is available to assist with any problems folks from the Hudson Valley may be having with a federal government agency, such as the Social Security Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or the Veterans Administration.
"I'm here to work for folks in the Hudson Valley, and our office is here to be their advocate and help cut through any bureaucratic red tape of the federal government," said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. "Too often people feel like no one is fighting for them, and while my district office in Newburgh is at the crossroads of the district, holding satellite office hours will allow my constituent advocates to be more accessible to folks all across the Hudson Valley."
Representative Maloney's office has handled over 1,000 new cases, and so far, Rep. Maloney has helped return $1,111,369 to Hudson Valley taxpayers who were owed Social Security checks, veterans' benefits, tax refunds and other payments from the federal government.

Spinkler systems must be inspected annually by a certified sprinkler company.
Fire alarms must be inspected annually by a certified fire alarm company.
Elevators must be inspected annually by a certified third party elevator inspection company.
Fire extinguishers must be inspected and serviced annually by a certified fire extinguisher company or replaced with a new extinguisher.

Thank you to everyone who came to the City Hall Time Capsule Opening on Friday, June 28, 2013 by Mayor DeStefano and Council President Miguel Rodrigues.
The contents of the capsule is in the process of being preserved with the recomendation of a historical preservation company who preserves our historical records for City Hall. After the preservation process is complete the contents of the time capsule will be on display in City Hall. Please check this website for futher details on the time line of the display.

As soon as the preservation process is complete we will have the contents scaned and on the website. Below is a sample of a 1899 silver certificate dollar that was in the capsule by Hulse Brothers Jewelers and Optometrists at 9 James Street dated August 2, 1910.

The Office of the New York State Comptrollers Office conducted an audit of the City of Middletown , entitled Selected Financial Operations and Information Technology. The audit was conducted pursuant to Article V, Section 1 of the State Constutiution and the State Comptroller's authority set forth in Article 3 of the General Municipal Law.
The results of the audit and recommendations ahve been discussed with the City officials and the CIty's respose is at the end the this report.
